Natural wine... what's it all about?
This trendy category may seem like the hottest new thing to hit the scene in recent years, but in fact, there's nothing new about it! Natural winemaking dates back thousands of years – and today those ancient ways are seeing a huge revival.
Natural wine is, simply put, fermented grape juice with minimal intervention. It starts with organically or biodynamically grown grapes, which winemakers harvest by hand and let ferment with natural yeast. The finished product is unfined and unfiltered, which often results in that cloudiness, sediment or unique hue often equated with natural wine.
Flavour-wise, natural wines can taste quite different from typical wines. They have a reputation for being funky, gamey, earthy, yeasty... but not always! Some can also be clean and fruity.
So... are you ready for a taste?
