As climate change increasingly impacts vineyards around the world, including in New Zealand, Schubert recognised the need to further adapt their practices. We love that they're already part of our certified organic collection... and now we're thrilled to share they've joined the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) certification program, transitioning to being fully sustainable! One more great brand to our collective of certified sustainable wineries.
With more frequent and extreme weather events highlighting the limitations of certain organic practices, this transition allows Schubert greater flexibility and access to a broader range of viticultural and winemaking tools. While organic farming primarily focuses on avoiding synthetic plant protection products, sustainable winegrowing takes a more holistic view. It emphasises biodiversity, soil health, water stewardship, and energy efficiency – crucial elements for adapting to our changing climate.
By embracing sustainable practices, Schubert is fostering healthier, more resilient vineyards. This approach not only improves grape quality but also strengthens their ability to manage pests and diseases, which are key challenges in today’s environment.
Starting with the 2024 vintage, you’ll see the certified SWNZ logo on Schubert’s labels. Cheers for leading the way in sustainable practices!
