A badge of honour comes in many forms…in this case, it’s in the form of a sticker! Having bestowed upon a ‘Best in Show’ sticker from Decanter World Wine Awards is considered one of the pinnacle moments for many wineries. Ranked Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze, these stickers are awarded to the most outstanding wines each year. This year, over 16,000 wines entered the competition, which were tasted in three separate occasions by 116 of the world’s top wine experts within 28 days. Only the top 50 wines recognition…talk about a grueling battle (and a panel of really thirsty judges)!
Well, it gives us GREAT pleasure to announce that one of our very own has been awarded their DWWA sticker (Platinum no less, thank you very much) – Soumah Equilibrio Chardonnay 2018! Pocketing 97 points, Soumah is one of six Australian wineries to be granted this special accolade.
Equilibrio Chardonnay is meticulously crafted through natural wild yeast fermentation, using only the finest barrels and the very best grapes. Not to mentioned, only several cases are produced so it’s definitely a wine for those in-the-know!
‘We are very vineyard-focused and wanted this wine to represent everything a premium Chardonnay should, celebrating the acid and balance as much as the fruit. Our Equilibrio has to be full of everything but with no edges; it’s a tightrope walk, and nothing is allowed to topple the balance,’ says Brett Butcher, Soumah’s vigneron.1
What an amazing achievement for the Soumah team – and this is only their second vintage release with Equilibrio! Who knows what the future will hold for these guys?
