The legendary Ben Glaetzer has just released his latest wine and needless to say, it is one that is beyond exceptional. Continuing with his Egyptian mythology theme, this Barossa Valley examplar is fittingly called The Eye of Ra. A beautiful, complicated yet powerful deity in Egyptian mythology, The Eye of Ra is the feminine counterpart of the sun god, Ra. It acts as an extension of Ra’s powers as well as its own entity, holding life-giving, protective and nurturing energy as well as destructive powers when given the opportunity. This iconic red is in its first vintage - it’s boastful and compelling yet classy and elegant. With only a small number of outstanding Ebenezer vineyards selected in Barossa Valley, this wine is truly representative of the characteristics that this region has to offer. Delicious aromas of wild herbs, spiced plum and alluring blend of blackberry and cedar. Intense blackberry and blueberry flavours on the palate, interlaced with dark plum, licorice and dried spice with a hint of mocha and vanilla. Absolute sublime purity and complexity! Fine tannins with a long and fresh finish. An ultra-premium gem that will evolve with time so factor in cellar time. Since it is in extremely limited supply, consider this THE perfect gift for those rare wine collecting friends (or for yourself)! Each bottle is encased in a beautiful box with a unique code in the back in invisible UV ink guaranteeing provenance. Vegan-friendly.
“I have always aspired to create the perfect wine. The Eye of Ra Shiraz journey began when I was tasting fruit out in the Barossa Valley Ebenezer vineyards during the amazing 2016 vintage. I realised that fruit from selected individual vines across a small number of chosen vineyards had the outstanding combination of characters to create a wine to be the epitome of Barossa Shiraz. The wine then progressed through vinification exceeding the highest levels of my expectations. To me, The Eye of Ra 2016 Shiraz represents the very best that the famed Ebenezer district in the Barossa Valley has to offer from a truly extraordinary 2016 vintage. It is the first wine I have released that I have deemed to be beyond exceptional.” – Ben Glaetzer

Here's how to interpret the ratings (in case you were wondering what's that number below the price). If you don't see a rating, it doesn't mean the wine is any less yummy. At the end of the day, wine is meant to be enjoyed and shared.
