Burgundy, France
Bailly, a small but prominent village in Burgundy, brings us joy in more ways than one. Initially providing stones to French architectural triumphs like the Notre-Dame, Bailly is famous for its sparkling wines, Crémant de Bourgogne, and the birthplace of the AOC for this wine style. Since 1972, the family co-operative, Bailly Lapierre (lapierre means ‘rock’ in French) has been producing these enchanting sparkling wines. Today, Bailly Lapierre is a must-see – not only is their cellar the abandoned stone quarry, there are also unique sculptures (directly on the rocks) that the winery had commissioned!
