Congratulations to Cyril Brun for winning Best Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at International Wine Challenge 2019! A prestigious and much coveted award from the world’s most scrupulous and influential wine competition (36th year running), this is a monumental achievement for both Charles Heidsieck and its cellar master! Born into a family of winegrowers in Aÿ, Cyril is no stranger to champagne making. In fact, his family only stopped making their own cuvée in the late 90’s to focus more on grape growing. Having 15 years at Veuve Clicquot under his belt, Cyril Brun joined Charles Heidsieck in 2015, taking over the role of Chef de Cave from the late legendary Thierry Roset. In the last 4 years, he continues to protect the house’s unique Champagne style and exceptional quality while adding his own flair. With his hard work and dedication to the brand, Charles Heidsieck is almost elevated to its own celebrity status!
Charles Heidsieck is not an unfamiliar house to this distinguished award, having taken it home 13 times in the past 25 years! Aka the ‘darling of Champagne’, Charles Heidsieck artfully blends the new, young, fresh vintages with the older, mature and complex reserve wines to come up with its distinct non-vintage taste known none to others. Their craftsmanship is concentrated and detailed, which is reflected in their smaller production size and (impressive) wine range. We at Wine Please! cannot wait to taste more of Cyril’s creations at Charles Heidsieck (their Blanc de Blanc NV just arrived, and we have exclusive!)! Congratulations once again!
