Flying first class & undetected

Let’s face it – Champagne has a presence that even non-drinkers appreciate – who doesn’t enjoy hearing the sound of the “pop”? And bubbles tend to be poured right, left and center for any type of celebrations, TGIFs and ‘just because’ occasions. But we, the buyers, tend to go for only a handful of brands. Yet, there are many other Champagne houses out there that are phenomenally rated by the industry and somehow, fly under the radar with consumers.

Charles Heidsieck is one of these outstanding yet understated houses that people need to know about! Even at the start in 1851, Charles Heidsieck had already won hearts of many wine critics. And the cuvees in the last 30 years continued to evolve into perfection – thanks to its celebrated cellar masters, including the late Daniel Thibaut, Regis Camus, the late Thierry Roset and now, Cyril Brun. The accolade, “Best Sparkling Winemaker of the Year”, from London International Wine Challenge, has been awarded to Maison Charles 12 times in the past 20 years! Doubt any other houses can beat that!

Recently, Cyril Brun released two stunning cuvees that are truly magnificent – the newly created Blanc de Blancs NV and the rare Blanc des Millenaires 2004. The Blanc de Blancs NV is made with 100% Chardonnay and simply fresh and vibrant with its yeasty, citrusy floral aromas. The Blanc des Millenaires had only been produced four times, prior to the new release, during really great vintages: 1983, 1985, 1990 and 1995. Vintage 2004 is exceptional – it encapsulates the beauty of Cote des Blancs and the artisanal skills of the cellar master!
