Seems like the buzzwords nowadays are “sustainable, organic, zero-waste…” whether it’s the kale you eat, the toothpaste you use or the chair you sit on. And rightfully so - we only got one Earth!
But that’s for another day…
With so many “eco-“ topics surging through our social media, it’s no wonder that our travel tastes have changed too. Enter New Zealand - home to traveling thrill seekers, the All Blacks, enological treasures and eco-friendly paradise. And what better place to go to than Kiwi Land for an eno/eco experience?!
Not sure about you but we are big fans of New Zealand products. Many businesses have a holistic, eco-conscious approach in their best practices with their quality standards set very high. And the wine industry is no different. In fact, 98% of the vineyards in New Zealand are certified sustainable and many are also farmed organically and/or biodynamically.
While there are several wine regions in both North and South Islands, perhaps the most notable one (and a great place to start your travels) is Marlborough Sounds in South Island. Probably more known for the bigger brands in this region, you’ll be surprised to find some boutique hidden gems worth exploring. Seresin Estate is located close to Blenheim, or the “foodie” capital of New Zealand. This picturesque estate is a working farm and has lots to share with its visitors – the vineyards, the orchards, the animals and the winery. All the farming here is done biodynamically.
They also have a Waterfall Bay Feast every year, bringing in special guest chef just for the event (so ticket must be purchased beforehand). Idyllic, it sits within the tranquil native forest overlooking the bay, serving scrumptious seasonal foods paired perfectly with their wines. If you want to visit the winery, be sure to call in advance to as vineyard tours are by appointment only!
And after a vino experience, you can go swimming with dolphins, head onto a biking tour or head back to your treehouse resort. Because, that’s how they roll in Marlborough Sounds. Oh what a life!
