Discover Wines of South Africa 2019

Who doesn’t like a tasty glass of wine with some mates, especially at the end of a long work week? But it’s truly special when the gang gets together to celebrate something beautiful and historical. The team at Wine Please! was lucky enough to join Discover South Africa Annual Tasting on 12th April this year at the Pullman Hotel in Causeway Bay. Not only does 2019 mark the first wine ever made in South Africa 360 years ago, it also commemorates the first democratic elections held 25 years ago (with Nelson Mandela being elected). And it was really then that the modern wine industry took flight. With every passing year, their international trade grew exponentially while young, innovative and creative winemakers were showcasing their craft and wowing wine critics around the world.

Speaking of wow moments, our Stellenrust left a lasting impression with the local crowd that evening! The 53 Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2017’s gorgeous tropical and white flower aromas was what everyone talked about. The lingering taste of melon, tangerine, honeysuckle with yummy peach, just mentioning this makes my mouth water! And the Corner Stone Pinotage 2015 equally knocked the socks off of many! Smooth with great blend of coffee, dark chocolate, plum and cherry and touch of spice. All we can say is that people loooooved them and kept on coming back for more that evening! And honestly, who can blame them? These wines are truly irresistible!
