If you want a bit of history in a glass, crack open Hewitson Monopole Mother Vine Shiraz! The Monopole vineyard is sourced exclusively from on 1853 Shiraz vine found in the middle of The Old Garden. Over many years, Hewitson harvested the buds from this one Shiraz Vine and grafted them onto roots growing at the winery. Today, there is one hectare of an ancient pre-phylloxera “Selection Clonale” from this 1853 vine with its own unique flavour and tannin profile. Like any history buff, this bottle of wine is seductively rich and opulent. Ripe black fruit aromas with lingering floral perfume. Give this a swirl and allow the chocolate, earthy vanilla, and leather tones seep through. Gorgeous layers of plum, dark cherry, strawberry with cola and eucalyptus on the palate. Elegant touches of cocoa, pepper, cinnamon, and mineral at the finish. This gem has a mighty length and power, yet it’s smooth and bold. Fine tannins but will open up more with time. Savour this bottle with some fire-grilled venison burgers or grilled tempeh mushroom yakitori skewers.

Here's how to interpret the ratings (in case you were wondering what's that number below the price). If you don't see a rating, it doesn't mean the wine is any less yummy. At the end of the day, wine is meant to be enjoyed and shared.
