Barossa Valley, Australia
Set in the heart of Barossa Valley, Hewitson is home to Dean, his wife Lou, and some of the oldest vines in the world. He obtained his undergrad in Australia’s world-famous Roseworthy Agricultural College, his masters in UC Davis, California and then ventured off to wineries around the world for some hands-on experience, including Petaluma for 10 years. Established in 1998, Hewitson produces wines that are expressive of the region with many accolades to show for. His wines make regular appearances on James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines. One of Dean’s greatest stories was him tracking down the oldest Mourvedre vines in the world (only 8 rows remaining from 1853!) to craft his renowned wine: Hewitson Old Garden.
