Plantagenet

Mount Barker, Australia

Plantagenet Wines was the first winery in Western Australia’s Great Southern region (a happy 5-hour drive from Perth!). In a stroke of serendipity, English migrant, Tony Smith, himself a descendant of the Royal English Plantagenets, ended up settling down and planting his first vines (precisely Shiraz and Cabernet) in the Plantagenet Shire in 1968. The rest, as they say, was history. Today, Plantagenet carries on making exceptional, elegant wines and is celebrated worldwide.

Fun fact:  Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. The House of Plantagenet was a royal dynasty that produced the fourteen Kings of England who ruled England for 331 years from 1154 until 1485.
